Approaching Autism: Understanding Treatment

ABA is an intensive treatment. Usually most kids are going to be in treatment anywhere
from twenty hours a week to forty hours a week and most of the time is going to be direct
one-on-one intervention. We’re essentially, for most children, teaching
them how to learn, so that might take two years for some children or it may take up
to six years. For about half of kids who come in and get intensive
behavioral intervention, teachers can’t tell that they have a diagnosis of autism. For about another forty percent there’s going
to be some need for support along the way, but those kids are going to make really significant
gains. Every child with autism is unique and every
child with autism will make progress with ABA treatment.
